Eight C295 aircraft for Royal Air Force of Oman

Airbus Military has announced that the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) has signed a contract for the acquisition of eight C295 aircraft to be delivered from 2013 onwards.

Airbus Military made the announcement 21 May, 2012, and also revealed that this order pushes the total number of C295 aircraft ordered to over 100.

Of the aircraft, five will be configured as tactical transports and three will be configured as maritime patrol aircraft (MPA). The C295 will upgrade the tactical transport capabilities of the RAFO, as well as enhancing Oman´s ability to patrol its territorial waters and to conduct missions against piracy, illegal immigration and smuggling.

With this order, Oman will become the first country of the Gulf Cooperation Council to operate the C295, according to Airbus Military. The Royal Oman Police already operates two CN235.
