Vulcan bomber signed up for RAF Cosford Air Show

Vulcan bomber signed up for RAF Cosford Air Show

The only remaining airborne Vulcan bomber is set to make a return appearance in Shropshire at RAF Cosford’s 75th Anniversary Air Show.

The iconic Avro Vulcan XH558, which creates a distinctive roar as it flies, will be one of the star attractions at the event on June 9.

It is the last flying Avro Vulcan anywhere in the world and has been at the Cosford show on just one other occasion, back in 2009.

Then it proved a huge hit with visitors, helping to set an attendance record of 58,000.

Air show spokesman, Flying Officer Sam Jewell, said: “The RAF Cosford Air Show team is very excited about the announcement of XH558 returning to the Shropshire skies.

“We know from her display debut here at RAF Cosford in 2009 that the public love her appearance on their day out, so we are thrilled to be able to offer the experience again for the many thousands we are expecting.”

Special

The appearance of the Vulcan has been made possible by a part-sponsorship deal with MPM Catering, which provides all the refreshment stands during the day.

Fiona O’Hanlon from MPM Catering said: “We have a particularly special relationship with the RAF Cosford Air Show and also wanted to provide this support given that the number of years we can enjoy this wonderful aircraft is decreasing.”

The V-Bomber became a symbol of British strength in the deterrent years following World War II and was also used during the Falklands conflict until it was retired from service in 1984.

Other attractions at the show include the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, including the Avro Lancaster, and the Red Arrows.

More information of the spectacular show can be found on the website at www.cosfordairshow.co.uk.
