MiG-21s on board North Korean trawler in Panama

MiG-21s on board North Korean trawler in Panama

One failed state helps another is how one might describe Cuba’s shipping a couple of old MiGs to North Korea, buried in a load of sugar. Cuba says they are being sent to North Korea for repair. That may be true, but you still can’t do that.

Would it not be great to have Cuba back into the fold of nice nations, where it would once again be a grand place to have a tropical vacation. Cuba would not need to expend a peso on national security because the U.S. would no doubt provide that.

Danny “the Count,” on Counting Cars would probably like to pay Cuba a visit to pick up some well worn old vehicles for flipping.

Anyway, such breaches in arms shipments warrant UN investigation.

President Ricardo Martinelli has never been so busy getting to the bottom of the boats at the Panama passage. Nice to see that The Guardian has found another story, but they might be missing the big birth back home.

“Panama finds MIG fighters on board North Korean ship

Jets uncovered with missile radar systems were on list of ordnance provided by Cuban government

guardian.co.uk, Monday 22 July 2013 09.00 EDT

Panamanian investigators unloading the cargo of a seized North Korean ship that carried arms from Cuba have found the two MiG-21 fighter jets the Cuban government had said were on board, the government said on Sunday.

Alongside the two supersonic planes, originally produced by the Soviet Union in the late 1950s, officials found two missile radar systems, President Ricardo Martinelli told reporters in the Atlantic port of Colon.

The discovery, which included cables and electrical equipment, was made inside containers on the Chong Chon Gang that Panama had feared might contain explosive material. None was found.”
