Kenyan interior minister killed in crash: government

Kenyan Kenyan Interior Minister George Saitoti, a junior minister and four others were killed Sunday after a police helicopter crashed near Nairobi, the vice-president said.

"It is unfortunate that we have lost honourable Prof Saitoti, assistant minister Orwa Ojode," Kalonzo Musyoka told journalists.

Joshua Orwa Ojode was was assistant minister for internal security.

The crash occurred near the capital Nairobi. The helicopter crashed into a forest and burst into flames. The bodies of the victims were burnt beyond recognition.

The cause of the crash has not been defined yet. The country’s vice president has arrived to the scene of the tragedy.

Last year Saitoti announced he would seek the Kenyan presidency in 2013.

Four die in Kenyan police helicopter crash: source

A Kenyan police helicopter crashed Sunday near Nairobi killing four people, a police source said.

The accident occurred in the Ngong hills on the outskirts of the Kenyan capital, the source said, adding that the reason for the crash was not immediately clear.
