Fifth Lockheed Martin C-5M Super Galaxy delivered to USAF

Lockheed Martin has announced that on 20 July 2012 it delivered the fifth production C-5M Super Galaxy to the US Air Force (USAF) at Robins Air Force Base. The company made the announcement 22 July 2012.

The aircraft is the eight overall C-5M for the USAF and will undergo internal paint restoration at Stewart Air National Guard Base, before travelling to its permanent home at Dover Air Force Base.

The Super Galaxy is the USAF’s strategic airlifter, and is designed to link the US homeland directly to the warfighter in all theatres of combat without refuelling. With a payload of six Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) or up to five helicopters, the C-5 can haul twice as much cargo as any other airlifter.
