Leonardo AW139M wins Colombian presidential deal

Colombia the new presidential transport helicopter of the Republic of Colombia will be an AW139 supplied by Italian aerospace firm Leonardo in the second quarter of this year, the company confirmed on January 11.

The Colombian Air Force selected the type on August 14 last year (see Leonardo AW139 is new Colombian Presidential helicopter, October, p22) and will operate it in a very very important person (VVIP)-configuration with eight seats. In the head of state role it will be fitted with a self-defence countermeasures system.

The Colombian Air Force is the first military customer of the type in the country.

Leonardo said: “The AW139M military variant is also being proposed by Leonardo to respond to the multirole requirements of the air force, army, national police and navy in Colombia.”
