Second RAF Tornado crash in two weeks, pilots ejected safely
An RAF Tornado has crashed as it attempted to land at its Lossiemouth base, two weeks after another jet crashed into the sea. The RAF has confirmed the two crewmen ejected safely during the incident which happened shortly after 1700 BST.
From information gained from UKAR, the aircraft is ZD741 coded 089 and it is understood to have landed on its wheels and possibly ran onto the grass.
The accident comes just a fortnight after a Tornado jet crashed in the sea off the west coast of Scotland on 27 January. Two crewmen, also from RAF Lossiemouth, were forced to eject from their plane before it hit the water at Loch Ewe, near Gairloch, Wester Ross.
