Iran Air Force test-fires home-made anti-radar smart missile

Fighter bombers of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) have successfully struck and destroyed fixed and mobile targets in the second day of the main phase of massive aerial military drills, Press TV reports.

"Our [Iran-built] Saeqeh pilots were able to hit all their targets using light ammunition," General Mohsen Darrebaqi, an official with the IRIAf, told Press TV.

Another official with the IRIAF Brigadier General Mohammad Alavi also said that Saeqeh fighters carried heavy loads of ammunition and successfully struck their targets.

In addition to the operation of the fighter jets, electronic warfare devices were also examined and assessed on Wednesday.

"We also tested electronic warfare equipment today," said spokesman for the drills Brigadier General Hossein Chit-Foroush. "We look at aerial combat as a type of electronic warfare, he added, noting that during Wednesday drills the air force pilots practiced a scenario in which the fighter planes were able to avoid radar detection in specific locations."

The IRIAf is holding massive three-phased aerial drills "Velayat-3".

The drills seek to simulate real-world scenarios in preparation for defending the nation against any possible foreign attacks against the country.

The third and main phase of the drills started on Tuesday and is due to end on Thursday.

During the first two days of the main phase, various types of domestically-built fighter jets, including Saeqeh, F-4, F-5 and F-7, carried out various practice mission, employing new tactics.

The fighter jets struck and destroyed assumed targets with various types of missiles, including radar-triggered, air-to-surface and air-to-air ones, as well as smart, thermal, radar and laser bombs.

The IRIAF's strategic aircraft and equipment were also used in performing night operations in total darkness with silent radios on Wednesday.

In the last day of the drills on Thursday, C-130 tactical transport aircraft and Mig-29 fighter jets are scheduled to perform practice operations.

Iran test-fires home-made anti-radar smart missile

Senior Iranian Air Force commanders announced on Thursday, September 15, that the country has successfully test-fired a home-made anti-radar smart missile, capable of destroying even mobile targets with 100 percent precision.

According to Fars News Agency, Air Force Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Alavi said the air-to-ground missile was fired from a Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jet during the air drills in Northwestern Iran on Thursday and destroyed the target with 100 percent precision.

The Iranian Air Forces (IRIAF) also tested firing laser, thermal and TV-guided missiles with various ranges, he added.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) started the massive air drills, codenamed 'Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Vellayat III' in Northwestern Iran on September 6.

On Tuesday the Air Force started the main phase of its four-staged air drills with testing hi-tech bombs and other advanced weapons systems, including various air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.

An array of fighter jets, fighter bombers, cargo and transportation planes, including F-4, F-5, F-14, SU-24 fighter-bombers, Mig-29 and the logistic C-130 planes, and Saeqeh home-made fighter jets are used in the drills.
