Airbus H145 helicopters for Georgian Border Police

Airbus H145 helicopters for Georgian Border Police

Late December 2022, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs signed a deal with Airbus helicopters for three H145 twin-engine light utility helicopters for use with the Georgian Border Police (GBP).

Within this contract, valued at € 26,5 million, the GBP will hand over a single AS332L1 Super Puma to Airbus saving € 5,5 million on the costs of the H145s. The Super Puma, serial GBP-10021 (c/n 2833), was previously used as a government VIP transport helicopter before being transferred to the GBP. The contract for the H145s include pilot and engineer training as well as a three-year aircraft support package.

The new helicopters will be employed in firefighting and rescue missions as well as in the security role. Delivery of the first H145 will be within 17 months of the contract’s signing, May 2024, with the remaining two expected for delivery by the end of that year.

Georgia operated three AS332L1 Super Puma helicopters, two with the Border Police of which one had crashed, and one with the Air Force. These are: GBP-10020 (c/n 2820, ex 4L-SSS, written off), GBP-10021 (c/n 2833, ex 4L-GGG) respectively 100 (c/n 2387).
