Saab Secures FMV Order to Advance Gripen Development

Saab Secures FMV Order to Advance Gripen Development

SEK 2.5 billion contract ensures continued modernization of Sweden’s frontline fighter system through 2026–2028

Saab has received a major order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to support the future development of the Gripen fighter system. Covering operations between 2026 and 2028, the contract is valued at approximately SEK 2.5 billion.

The order enables Saab to continue advancing the Gripen system, including the operation and support of test aircraft and the use of advanced development tools such as rigs and simulators. These assets are critical for verification, validation, and the integration of new capabilities into the Gripen platform.

“To enable continued development, advanced tools that are easy to operate, efficient to maintain and fast to configure are required. This order ensures that Saab’s development resources meet these requirements, so that the Gripen system can continue to be continuously upgraded to meet today’s and tomorrow’s threat landscape,” said Lars Tossman, Head of Saab’s Aeronautics business area.

Saab is a leading defence and security company with a mission to help nations safeguard their people and societies. With a workforce of 27,000 employees worldwide, Saab designs, manufactures, and maintains advanced systems in aeronautics, weapons, command and control, sensors, and underwater technologies. Headquartered in Sweden, Saab plays a key role in the domestic defence capabilities of several nations while maintaining major operations across the globe.
