6 Training and Simulation Systems for Aerial Platforms

6 Training and Simulation Systems for Aerial Platforms

Blending combat experience with today’s innovative simulation technologies, Elbit Systems offers operational and tactical, virtual and embedded trainers and simulators to leading air forces worldwide.

The modular, flexible training solutions for airborne systems are designed to evolve and grow with customer needs. They offer computer-based trainers, partial task trainers, full mission trainers and complete training centers that comprise mission planning systems, simulators and debriefing systems.

The advanced combat training system introduces a cutting-edge training concept for lead-in trainers as well as fighter aircraft. Based on data link technologies incorporated into navigation and display systems, the system generates virtual sensors and systems as well as multiple types of threats – both airborne and ground.

Elbit Systems, an acknowledged leader in the field , builds on over three decades of experience in training and simulation programs and offers comprehensive solutions that have the unique advantage of being based on actual, operational systems that the Company develops, manufactures and supplies.

These solutions range from mission preparation, through execution, to post-mission debriefing and analysis. Using a building block approach incorporating COTS (Commercial- Off-The Shelf) components and specially designed simulation modules, our total, tailored solutions are designed to evolve along with customers’ needs. Simulator operation and maintenance are part of the total package.

Elbit Systems’ training systems and concepts, together with BVR’s legacy systems include the following:

SkyBreaker Mission Training Center

The Aircraft Mission Training Center (MTC) is a fully networked solution for operational combat training. The SkyBreaker incorporates all the necessary elements required to provide high fidelity operational training such as: advanced arena generator supporting thousands of virtual entities using Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Sky Vis, the most advanced Image generation and Display system available today for tactical training. The SkyBreaker covers all stages of a mission, including planning, rehearsal, training and debriefing.

SkyBreaker was designed to save cost, not only by replacing expensive flight hours, but also by adopting flexible training configurations using its Roll-in Roll-out cockpits capabilities allowing the use of multiple aircraft types in the same training center. Users’ feedback after using the system is “this is as close as it can get to real life scenarios”. Elbit Systems SkyBreaker is supplied to the Israeli Air Force, to the Colombian Air Force and several other worldwide customers.

F-16 Block 15, F-16 Block 30/40, F-16 Block 52 Full Mission Simulators

The advanced Full Mission Simulators for the F-16 aircraft (Block 15 / Block 30/40 and Block 52) simulate all aircraft systems, emergencies and weapon deliveries. Elbit Systems’ recently delivered its F-16I simulator system to the Israeli Air Force (IAF).

Elbit Systems’ advanced full mission simulators for the F-16 aircraft support A/G, A/A and other mission types and features an integrated Instructor Operating Station (IOS) and After Action Review (AAR) capabilities. Elbit Systems integrates actual avionics components into its simulators enabling use of LRUs from the simulated platform. This assures full simulation fidelity together with upgrade potential as avionics evolve.

The simulators are based on the operationally proven Elbit Systems SimEngine simulation core-software suite, incorporating many advanced features such as scheduling, real-time performance on standard PCs and MS Windows operating systems, data monitoring and injection and database management fully provided to the customer.

Full Mission/Full Motion Simulators for Mi-8, Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters

Our Full Mission/Full Motion Simulators (FMS) for Mi24, Mi-17 and Mi-8 helicopters provide training that covers every aspect of helicopter routines in addition to emergency and mission operations for diverse scenarios. The FMS simulates a variety of flight conditions and assures tactical environment preparedness. Built on a moving structure, the FMS simulates the feeling of flight under various conditions, providing pilots with a realistic flight experience.

“Tzofit” (Beechcraft King Air B200) Training Center

In June 2009, Elbit Systems inaugurated the Beechcraft King Air B200 “Tzofit” training center for Israeli Air Force (IAF) pilots. Elbit Systems serves as the project’s prime contractor, while Mechtronix (Canada) serves as a subcontractor. The trainer is licensed for FAA Level D for commercial training.

The center operates through a PFI (Private Financing Initiative) program, with Elbit Systems providing the IAF with a turnkey solution, including the establishment of the training center, operation, simulator supply, training services and maintenance for a 10-year period.

The new training center is consistent with the growing trend of defense forces worldwide to privatize non-combat operations by outsourcing to capable defense industries. As the IAF’s pilots train in the facility, Elbit Systems is planning an extensive training program that also will include civil aviation pilots, both from Israel and from abroad.

TARGO® – Helmet Mounted Avionics (HMA) Solution for Trainers

The TARGO® HMA solution for Trainers, developed and produced by Elbit Systems, is part of a new product family that implements “Helmet Mounted Avionics” (HMA) technology, designed to be utilized at any required level of integration.

The TARGO® HMA is Elbit Systems’ ideal solution for training aviators to master cutting edge platforms and systems in a cost effective package. Covering all stages of the mission, from planning to debriefing, TARGO® assures a dramatic improvement on the ground and in flight training.

In the Planning stage, TARGO® facilitates creation of detailed mission mapping, including navigation, threats, symbols, in-flight simulation, advisory data and more with its dedicated TARGO® SkyPlan.

The Rehearsal stage is comprehensively covered, allowing trainees to experience every moment of the mission with the on-helmet TARGO® Sim. Trainees debriefing with TARGO’s® embedded ACMI helmet feature allows to debrief with zero integration.

The system also enables to review performance of single or multiple aircraft with flight recording and debriefing capabilities complete with aircraft audio and helmet video.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Simulators

UAVs are assuming more functions and playing increasing roles in homeland defense and homeland security applications. Deployed by police forces, fire departments, rescue squads, coastal patrols and drug interdiction teams, their sophisticated capabilities and onboard systems are able to tackle many of the complex challenges now performed by manned aircraft.

Elbit Systems is the source of a full family of UAV systems and has devised Simulation systems to train personnel in optimal UAV operation.
