IAF to buy advanced jet trainers
The IAF currently operates the Texan II T-6 as advanced and intermediary trainer, followed by F-16A/B used as lead-in trainer for fighter pilots.
Elbit Systems announced today the signing of a founder’s agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd to establish a joint company and a limited partnership to perform a potential project of purchasing and maintenance of advanced training aircraft, as well as additional services for the Israeli Ministry of Defense
The Joint Entity established under the Agreement, will be equally owned (subject to required regulatory approvals), and will supply the MoD with the products and services required for the Project’s execution.
The IAF has evaluated several options and is currently considering either the T-50, proposed jointly by Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Lockheed Martin or the Italian M-346 from Alenia Aermacchi which are offered with advanced virtual avionics suite, enabling the trainers to depict the cockpit layout and functionality of fighters like the F-16I Block 50/52 , F-15I and F-35
