Sustaining the UK's Tornado Aircraft

Sustaining the UK's Tornado Aircraft

New study contract will look at sustaining the Royal Air Force's Tornado aircraft.

A new six-month study contract known as Tornado Project Quest will look at the future sustainment requirements for the UK’s Tornado fleet.

The majority of work for the study will be carried out at BAE Systems, Warton with close engagement of all Tornado stakeholders especially the MoD Tornado project team, Panavia, NETMA and MoDSAP. As well as looking at sustainment requirements, the study will also look at how best to provide affordable support solutions for the Tornado fleet.

This work follows on from a similar activity on Typhoon which resulted in the recently announced Contract 1.

Photo Story: RAF Marham Hosts The BBC Antiques Roadshow

“After a six month lead in, the day finally came and the BBC Antiques Roadshow arrived to film 2 programmes at RAF Marham.

By kind permission of the Bertrand-Dixon family and Gp Capt John Cunningham OC 3EFT the Schneider trophy was flown into RAF Marham by a Tutor from No 3 EFT Cranwell piloted by Flt Lt Bullement . The Tutor was met by Fiona Bruce who took charge of the trophy and escorted it to the valuation table. The MCO and Roadshow project officer, Sqn Ldr Paula Willmot then filmed a piece to camera recounting the origins of the trophy why it is presented today to expert Paul Atterbury. The final valuation will be in the programme to be aired in September.

Also OC No IX (B) Sqn produced some Battle of Britain memorabilia which also ended up making the final cut for the show.

Just under 3,000 people attended the show from all over Norfolk which was hosted on the IX (B) HAS site amongst the GR4’s including the newly painted 100th Anniversary II (AC) jet.

Over 30 experts valued items throughout the day from shell casings and military artefacts to prize pieces of extremely valuable jewellery, pictures and books including a first edition Charles Dickens and some lacework with royal connections.

Gp Capt Cooper stated “It has been a lot of hard work by my team at RAF Marham but it has reflected us in an extremely good light and has allowed our community to come onto the base”.
