(Army 12,656, Air 5,276) Paramilitary 3,100 personnel. Civilian 7,888 (Army 1,013, Air 815 MOD Staff 6,060) Notes: The armed forces are being reorganised with full operational capability planned for 2010–12. The military forces are Joint Forces, composed of Army, Air Force and Joint Forces Support Units. The Ministry of Defense plans to abolish the Joint Forces Command in 2012 and reestablish separate Land and Air Forces Commands

  Joint Forces Command: Olomouc

  The principal task is to secure the integrity of the Czech Republic’s airspace. This mission is fulfilled within NATO Integrated Extended Air Defence System (NATINEADS) and, if necessary, by means of the Czech national reinforced air defence system. In addition, the Air Force provides close air support for the Army, and performs tasks associated with the transportation of troops and material.
