As of 2026, Oman continues to utilize a centralized aviation model where the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) owns, operates, and maintains all manned rotary-wing assets required for land force operations. While the Omani Army (ε25,000 personnel) does not maintain a sovereign, independent "Army Air Wing," it includes a dedicated Air Manoeuvre role via its 1 Airborne Regiment, which is supported by the RAFO's tactical transport helicopter squadrons.

ROYAL OMAN ARMY AVIATION • (RAFO Integrated Support)
Land Forces Personnel: ε25,000. Status: Integrated support provided by the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO). Mission: Tactical mobility, air manoeuvre, and logistical support for ground formations.

Forces by Role & Equipment by Type
Tactical Mobility & Air Manoeuvre Support (RAFO Assets)

HELICOPTER 18+ active support-capable.

Medium Transport & Tactical Mobility:

  • 18 NHIndustries NH90 TTH.
    • (Role: Primary tactical transport platform; these assets provide the "Air Manoeuvre" capability for the Army's 1 Airborne Regiment).
  • 3 Bell 212 (AB-212).

Training & Liaison (Helicopter):

  • 5 Bell 429.
  • 4 Bell 206 Jet Ranger.

Note: By 2026, the aviation support for the Omani Army is defined by high-readiness integration with the Royal Air Force of Oman. While Oman has recently completed the recapitalization of its core air and naval systems, the government is now focusing on modernizing the land domain. This modernization effort includes the establishment of an armored-vehicle maintenance facility through international collaboration with partners like FNSS. Logistical support for the helicopter fleet is increasingly localized, supported by agreements with Rolls-Royce for engine maintenance and Lockheed Martin for satellite-based aircraft tracking systems.
