Volga-Dnepr and Chapman Freeborn Deliver Welding System to Malaysian Power Station

Volga-Dnepr and Chapman Freeborn Deliver Welding System to Malaysian Power Station

A 19-ton portable welding system was part of a shipment delivered to Malaysia by Volga-Dnepr Airlines and air charter specialists Chapman Freeborn to support restoration work at one of the country’s biggest electricity power stations.

The IL-76TD-90VD freighter flight operated to Bintulu, Malaysia, from Jakarta in Indonesia.

The welding equipment and other cargo was required to repair a malfunction of the main rotor at one of energy companies’ power stations which provides electricity for the Malaysian state of Sarawak. All 11 pieces of cargo were packed in special crates for transportation and were loaded using a three-ton capacity forklift vehicle.

Chapman Freeborn’s regional manager in Singapore, Anton Lomakin, said: “This on-time transport operation was another excellent example of how we work closely with Volga-Dnepr to deliver urgent cargo all over the world. We value the Volga-Dnepr team’s professional work on behalf of our clients.”

About - llyushin IL-76TD

The heavy cargo-carrying ramp aircraft, the llyushin IL-76TD is one the most successful and popular aircraft in the history of air cargo transportation. Its characteristics include its cargo cabin size, carrying capacity, opportunity of autonomous loading without use of special airport equipment and the possibility of using the aircraft at airports with undeveloped infrastructure have remained its key competitive advantages for over 25 years.

With the active participation of Volga-Dnepr Group, a modernized version, the Ilyushin-76TD-90VD has been developed and built. The aircraft is equipped with new PC-90A-76 engines and modern avionics. It is approved for worldwide flight operations.

The aircraft has a tail loading entrance with expanding loading ramps. For loading of substandard cargo, the cabin is equipped with two electric winches of 3 tonnes traction each and 4 electric hoists with a pulling capacity up to 10 tonnes.
