Egyptian Air Force (EAF) MiG-29M crashed

On 3 November, a Russian-made MiG-29 multirole fighter crashed during a training mission in Egypt.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this point, the Egyptian pilot managed to eject safely.

No further details on the modification of MiG-29 aircraft have been released.

The aircraft belonged to the Egyptian Air Force (EAF). According to Russia’s Kommersant newspaper, MiG-29 fighter jet was supplied by Russia to Egypt as part of a commercial contract in 2018.

Also, the Russian aircraft corporation confirmed that EAF’s MiG-29 multirole fighter crashed in Egypt.

“We are in possession of the latest information about the crash of a MiG-29M belonging to the Egyptian army. Our technical experts will travel to Egypt very soon to help in the investigation,” said in the corporation.

The corporation, which unites state-owned military and civilian aircraft construction companies, did not provide possible reasons for the crash. It could not immediately be reached for comment.

The MiG-29M/M2 is a major development of the legacy MiG-29, boasting design changes to the airframe, improved turbofans in the RD-33MK (which is similar in weight to the RD-33, but benefits from a higher thrust rating and full-authority digital engine control), fly-by-wire flight control system, updated avionics and Zhuk-ME pulse-Doppler radar.

Russia is due to supply 46 MiG-29 fighter planes to Egypt based on an agreement signed in 2015, Vedomosti newspaper said at the time, citing two sources in the aircraft industry.
