McConnell secures N.J. aircraft from Irene
McConnell Air Force Base is helping to secure aircraft from Hurricane Irene so New Jersey Air National Guardsmen can return to their homestation to be with families and prepare for the storm's approach.
McConnell helped to secure six KC-135 Stratotankers from the Air National Guard's 108th Air Refueling Wing, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., on Friday.
As Hurricane Irene approaches New Jersey, senior leaders at Joint Base McGuire executed their hurricane evacuation plan and sent the six aircraft to use McConnell as a safe haven until the storm passes.
