South Korea, US Officials to Hold Anti-Bioterrorism Tabletop Drill
South Korean and US military and government officials will conduct a joint tabletop exercise this week to enhance their ability to address bioterrorism activities, South Korean media quoted the country’s Defense Ministry as saying Monday.
The annual anti-bioterrorism drill entitled “Able Response 13” will be held June 19-21 at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses in the capital Seoul, Yonhap news agency reported.
The exercise will involve some 200 military and health officials from both countries’ 50 government organizations.
“South Korea and the United States will review the government-level integrated response system that relates to not only biological outbreaks but also bioterrorism threats, and discuss ways to enhance bioterrorism response capability,” the ministry said in a statement.
This year's exercise will be held for the third time. The participating countries will test simulated scenarios and try to identify shortcomings and areas for improvement in the current response system, the ministry said as quoted by the South Korean news agency.
