Northrop shows off EC-2 capabilities
Malaysia's military has been introduced to the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities of Northrop Grumman's E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.
The airborne early warning aircraft's crew workstation is center stage in the company's display at this week's Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition and highlights the AN/APY-9 radar, which is the "backbone" of the E-2D platform.
In the Advanced Hawkeye, Northrop said, the new electronically scanned radar is coupled with matching sensors, avionics, processors, software and displays for improved detection and tracking of threats and targets.
"ISR capability is critical to maintaining national sovereignty," said Mary Petryszyn, vice president, international, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. "Northrop Grumman's leadership in multiple-domain ISR strongly positions us to provide effective solutions for Malaysia's defense modernization."
Northrop has delivered nine of the new aircraft to the U.S. Navy. Malaysia is among the first countries the U.S. government has given approval for its acquisition.
